Purple is one of those beautiful colors that rarely gets used in my stash of art supplies.  I usually only grab the paint tube when I need a shadow.  It's a shame, really.  Purple makes me think of lush velvet.  Royalty.  It makes me think of a Phish song, 'Wading in the Velvet Sea', which I imagine to be purple.

So when I was searching for something to use for this weeks post, I came up a little short.  All I could find was this photo I took this summer at Bristlecone National Monument.  Obviously the sky wan't that color but for some reason I had chosen this purplish filter.

So a challenge for me, and you, is to create something with the lush color purple.  Be sure to e-mail me a picture so I can post it on the Kathartsis Facebook page.

Circles.  They are everywhere.  They are one of the basic shapes we first learn about in school.  They hold such strong desire in the form of the first bicycle and car.  They are the icon for the "circle of life".

It was not so long ago that a small ball of sunshine had a frown upon his face.  He came home from his preschool class and announced that he could not draw things.  Now as an artist, this is absolutely heartbreaking.  How could my son not know how to draw things???

Picture
Well, until this very day, he was not interested in art, drawing, coloring etc.  I'm sure this had something to do with it.

No matter, his statement broke my heart.  That day I sat with him and tried to teach how to draw whatever he wanted.
The next day, he didn't care again.

Fast forward.... 6 months.

He is now in kindergarten and I emptied out his take home folder the other day.  And to my great surprise, I pulled out a beautifully drawn picture of a sailboat.

When I congratulated him on his wonderful drawing, that beam of light shone through again.

YUMMY!!!
Absolutely Yummy!

That's the word I used to describe my new oil pastels to my husband.
I got the raised eyebrows.  He doesn't get it.

I just bought these babies today.  I will be going back tomorrow to purchase more.
Picture
They are buttery, creamy and silky smooth.  Vibrant in color.
Picture
They easily glide over different surfaces such as paper and paint.

They are yummy.  There comes a time when the upgrade is
SOOOO worth it.  I will be having some fun in my artsy-fartsy world.

This past weekend was full of big fluffy storm clouds.  The ones that look like big fluffs of cotton candy.  Cumulus clouds to be exact.  They have made for some really pretty sunsets.

How can clouds influence your creativity this week.  Whip cream on ice cream? A handmade card?

Be sure to email me your photo and I will include it on this post AND on Kathartsis Facebook page.

This weeks weekly wonderful is a challenge of Black & White.  Use ONLY these colors in your creation. You can make a dessert, take a photograph, paint something...whatever your little heart desires.

This week's challenge was especially difficult for me because I LOVE color!  But to go without it was fun.  I may just have to create something else this week just because it was so out of my element.

Make sure to post your Weekly Wonderful on the Kathartsis Facebook page.

I bought this box the other day to keep my journal supplies handy (and organized) while traveling.  This summer I used a bucket and it was much too heavy and big, not to mention I filled it with supplies I didn't really need.  I saw this fabulous wooden box at Michaels and it was screaming "Paint Me!".

I had fun covering it with paint and stamping all over it.  Finishing it off with chipboard lettering and dimensional paint.  Gives me a good idea for an all day workshop. :)
